Ingredients

For the seasoning

  • Fortune Oil
  • Mustard seeds (1 tsp)
  • Cumin seeds (3/4 tsp)
  • Split black gram (urad dal) (1/2 tsp)
  • Asafoetida (hing) (a generous pinch)
  • Whole black pepper crushed (1/4 tsp)
  • Ginger (1 inch piece finely chopped)
  • Green chilli (1 finely chopped)
  • Carrot (1 grated)
  • Coriander leaves (few finely chopped)
  • Curry leaves (Few)

Other Ingredients

  • Oats (before powdering) (3/4 cup)
  • Semolina (sooji) (1/2 cup)
  • Curd (1 cup)
  • Baking soda (little less than 1/2 tsp)
  • Salt (as required)
Method
  • First things first, start the prep work with dry roasting oats until they are slightly hot to touch. Powder and keep them aside. You also need to dry roast rava until it is slightly hot to touch.
  • Now, let’s cook! Heat oil and add in the mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the rest of the ingredients for seasoning. Let them cook till the raw smell of carrot goes.
  • In a bowl, mix together powdered oats, rava, curd, salt, baking soda, the seasoning and needed water to make a batter similar to idli batter. Let it sit for 15 mins. (The batter should neither be thick nor thin but should be of dropping consistency.)
  • Next, mix powdered oats, rava, curd, salt, baking soda, the seasoning and needed water to make idli batter. 
  • Boil water for steaming and also grease idli moulds with oil. 
  • Now, pour a ladle of batter into the moulds. Steam the idlis for about 15 mins or until the idlis are cooked. 
  • Let them slightly cool and then, scoop out the idlis from the mould. Your healthilicious breakfast is ready to be served hot with chutney or sambar.
